Trying to find her way through insight that is best found in the mystery of darkness.

This lady is in the same vein as the one below. She is titled "Finding Her Way" and I think she , like "Reflections" below, has some sort of mythological feeling about her. These paintings are probably also a reflection of how I am feeling right now. There has been so much new ground lately and I am trying to find my feet. I am sure we all feel this way at different points in our life so maybe you will be able to relate to her. Enjoy!

I also want to get better photos of her - she is an oil painting so not quite dry yet and getting a lot of glare.

Blessings to you all --- off to shower, feed the pets and get ready to enjoy dinner with our friends and neighbors!

Hi all! I have a couple images of new paintings to share. The light has been horrible lately. It has been raining, raining, raining which is peaceful but terrible for picture taking. When the sun peeks out tomorrow, I will take more "auction style" pictures -- ie making sure the blues are true. But.... for now I just thought I would clue everyone in on what I have been up to.....

This lady was born out of the rain ... I just needed a little light reflected in the darkness and I love the moon. The colors are a little off so I will probably be reposting her.

I haven't forgotten about my blog! Hubby took the camera to NY for the weekend. He marched with his regiment in the St. Patty's Day Parade where they had a big celebration for all the guys home from Afghanistan. Anyway, the camera didn't survive the weekend so I am waiting for the new one he ordered me - he's the best! When I get my camera I will post some of the art I have been working on over the last week or so. I have a lot to share so come back soon......

I thought I would talk a little about the art supplies and process from a practical standpoint. I have learned a lot over the years about art supplies and do's and dont's. For my folk art I up to now always use acrylics. Acrylics are a lot less toxic than oils and they clean up with water instead of turpentine which is great. They also dry very quickly and are easy to turn around for sale. The feel and texture of them seem to work great for the primitive folky feel. I personally have settled on Golden Acrylics - they seem to be the best value for the money. They are expensive but there are paints that are verrrrrrrrrrrry expensive. I also use Liquitex sometimes - in a pinch. The cheap acrylics just don't seem to cut it - they dull and darken within a short time - the colors don't quite pop. I also found out the hard way that cheap canvas does not work. At least for me it makes the painting very difficult. At local art stores - even the big ones in NYC - the canvas is super expensive. But...... I found Jerrys Artarama and it is great. The paints are about 1/2 the price of arts and crafts stores and the canvas is affordable if you buy it in bulk. I use Creative Mark, The Edge canvas - when you buy two boxes of 3 or 6 you get a great deal and the quality is excellent. The canvas is gallery wrapped so it looks nice and finished when your done. I didn't mean for this to be an advertisement but I thought I would share my good bargain finds with other artists and dabblers!
It has been raining here for almost a full straight week. At first it was nice to have the peace that comes with rain but by last night the dog, the cat and I had enough. I was painting a dirty, gritty tree but just couldn't put my heart into it. On my walk with the dog I thought maybe I should paint the sun and some bright clear colors. I just couldn't get there from the rainy place I was- so I painted an angel pulling the moon over her head. I am very happy with how she turned out. I woke this morning refreshed and guess what the sun is peeking through the windows now. As soon as I get a chance I will post some pictures of the Moon Angel. She will be up on ebay this weekend.
