#10 Final Thoughts and How "At the Water's Edge" Turned Out

  1. Thank you so much sweet Carrie for showing us your techniques! I learned so much with pen in hand and am so excited to try this myself. You were so thorough with so much information and I loved seeing your excitement when things were turning out well-as art is always a surprise-and seeing something go not so right and seeing what happened there (the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat). It's so great that I will have these to refer back to as I go...thank you again, Carrie!!!!

  3. Thank you Carrie. I have used most of these mediums but never the crackle. You have inspired me and so I definitely want to try this. Thanks also for showing every step. It really helps.

  4. Carrie what a wonderful and informative video..struggled a bit with pulling up the video in some spots, I think due to downloading on my computer..but waited it out in the segments. On question..I can see you painted on the image after removing the paper and after that step dried. Did you paint the whole image are just parts of it..I know acrylics dry fast so is it necessary to let it sit for a length of time? Also you talked or I read in someone elses comment that you used permament markers..was it for outlines or did you paint with the permament markers. Blessings to you for showing this technique on canvas! I learned so much!

  5. Thank you for the feedback Mimi. I am wondering if that is blogger or my video software. I am learning as I go here so the feedback is wonderful. Somebody else asked you question...I posted the answer in the main video page's comment section, http://carriejoyart.blogspot.com/p/free-video-tutorials_15.html want to see pictures if you try it too!

  6. Oh and Mimi yes I left some parts alone and in other areas just very light washes of color so a lot of the image showed through. After painting I let it dry for a few days before I did the soft gel medium...markers for outlines. Acrylics do dry fast but I wanted to let the crackle and image really set in for a few days.

  7. this looks like fun! got the crackle stuff today, but could not find the gac100. will keep looking.
question: how to hang the picture? I use panels, and if I paint, it is easy to hammer in a toothed hanger thing (that's the technical name for it) on the back. I am afraid that I will knock off some of the plaster with these. how do you prepare it so that it can be hung??
you did a really great job!!

  8. The Gac 100 is really just a polymer I believe so I think you could use any acrylic polymer. Because the panel is cradled I just hang it on the wall as is but I guess you could put a little sawtooth in before you start. After you medium and varnish the paste is pretty sturdy...but I wouldn't want to bang it with a hammer :)
